ABOUT PATRICK

DIRECTOR OF PERFORMANCE NUTRITION

Patrick is our Director of Sports Nutrition & Sports Science here at Impact. He pairs his experience as a semi-professional basketball player with his education and experience to provide all of our athletes with practical and realistic goals.

He received his Bachelor's Degree in Sports & Exercise Science from Ireland, and was set on becoming a sports psychologist. However, after completing a module in sports nutrition during his final year of studies, he was hooked. The amount of misinformation and lack of understanding in the field of sports nutrition captured him. He later went on to complete a Master's in Human Nutrition in Copenhagen and a postgraduate diploma in Sports Nutrition.

Patrick has worked with over 500 athletes, ranging from recreational to professional, and across a wide variety of sports. He was previously a Senior Nutritionist for a professional football team and basketball team in Ireland. As a player and coach, he understands the unique demands placed on hoopers at all levels, and also feels very strongly that these individuals tend to underfuel.

More recently, prior to joining the team here at IMPACT, Patrick worked as a sports nutritionist for Team Biolayne and a Nutrition Speaker for O2X Performance, where he presented over 100 workshops to athletes across the country.

Case Study: How We Transformed Our Athlete's Hydration

During intense practices and games of 1-1.5 hours, our athletes lost an average of 2.5 lbs in fluid! We weighed each of our players before and after practice, and created a personalized hydration plan to ensure they consume enough fluid after sweat-heavy competition!

 

This looked like: 

  • 1 liter of water per hour for 2 hours
  • Our mix of CR7 Drive & H30 Electrolyte formulas
  • Urine test to ensure optimal levels of hydration are reached

How Our Academy Players Gained 3-5 lbs

When high school and postgraduate athletes come to Impact, they play more basketball than every before. Every day has 3-5 hours of expert drills, games, lifting and more. This makes weight gain especially difficult. But not, if you apply our scientific approach.

With each athlete, our sports nutrition team measured their body mass, muscle and fat %. They analyzed their daily activity and built a nutrition program specific to each athlete.

This ensured that the athlete consumed enough energy throughout the day, along with protein, carbs and fat. This, paired with their regular strength training resulted in the scale going up, increased muscle mass and strength on the court.

1-to-1 Nutrition Coaching

If your young athlete struggles to eat enough, can't put on weight and needs to gain size and strength, this is the service for them. We provide remote, 1-to-1 nutrition coaching with Patrick, our Sports Nutritionist.

There will be a personalized nutrition program, weekly check-ins, montly calls and tons of resources (Supplement guides, gameday fueling plans, recipes, etc.).

Our nutrition team will use these to help your young athlete gain 10-15 lbs
